“What are they saying about me?”
“Am I in there way?”
“Do I look dumb doing this?”
Those are just a few questions that cross my worried mind on any given given day during a photoshoot. Over the past few years I’ve grown accustomed to people staring, pointing, and just looking straight-up annoyed when I’m on the street shooting. I wish I could say it got easier shoot after shoot but nope!
I think now more than ever many people consider bloggers/influencers on the same level as tourists which is cringe-worthy to say the least. It can be a smile one minute and the next minute someone just steps right in the shot and glares at me with a face of disgust. While I’m here thinking “I’m just doing my job, why are people being so rude?” it makes me think what happens when I’m that person on the street and someone is in my way taking photos, wouldn’t I be annoyed too? The answer is simply: Hell yes. I would be a typical New Yorker and fast-walk right in front of them paying no mind. I always have to remember that during a shoot. I usually just grin and bear it because eventually I’m going to get the shot I want and all will be right with the world. I need to remember that I live in the city that never sleeps and also, the city that never slows down. People are always going to be in my way and I just have to deal with that simple fact during every shoot. Enough about me, check out my River Island shirt! I even brought some of my people along to help ease the stress of NYC street shoots. Thank you for making me look less awkward, guys!
